Veteran gospel singer Mrs. Deborah Fasoyin, celebrated for her role in popularizing the timeless track Odun Lo Sopin, has disclosed that she is not the original composer of the song.

In a recent interview shared by FM 365 and reported by Church Times Nigeria, Fasoyin explained that the song, widely attributed to her choir’s famous 1979 recording, was already well-known before their rendition.

“I must confess to you, till tomorrow, we don’t know the composer of the song. We only added two verses to it,” Fasoyin revealed.

Speaking in Yoruba, she elaborated, “There were many CAC churches in Ibadan. In those days, whenever they had revival programs towards the end of the year, you’d hear people sing the song Odun Lo Sopin (meaning ‘the year is coming to an end’). That chorus belongs to CAC. We only added two verses.”

Despite this longstanding acknowledgment, many continue to associate Fasoyin with the composition, which remains a cherished tradition at end-of-year gatherings.

Fans have lauded her transparency, with some recalling that the song Odun Lo Sopin was already popular as far back as 1975. Fasoyin’s choir, the Christ Apostolic Church Good Women Choir, Ibadan, brought national attention to the track, ensuring its enduring relevance across generations.

The song’s heartfelt prayers for protection and blessings as the year concludes have solidified its place in Nigerian cultural and spiritual life, transcending time and linguistic barriers.
