Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has been released from the Kuje Custodial Centre after fulfilling the bail conditions set by the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama.

  • Release Details: According to the FCT Command spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Adamu Duza, Yahaya Bello‘s release was supervised by the FCT Controller, Ajibogun Olatubosun, ensuring all protocols were adhered to.
  • Bail Conditions: On Thursday, Justice MaryAnne Anenih granted Yahaya Bello bail in the sum of ₦500 million, with three sureties owning property in upscale Abuja neighborhoods like Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro. He was also required to surrender his passport and seek court approval before traveling outside Nigeria.
  • Charges: Bello faces a 16-count charge filed by the EFCC for alleged fraud involving ₦110 billion diverted from Kogi State’s funds. He has pleaded not guilty.
  • Trial Dates: The trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja over separate ₦80 billion money laundering charges will commence on January 29, 2025, with additional dates set for January 30, February 25, and February 27.
