The 100m hurdles world champion and world record holder Tobi Amusan is fighting an accusation of failing a drug test, which might result in a ban.
Amusan announced the complaint on social media, writing that she was accused of skipping three drug tests within a year, which is punishable by a two-year suspension even if the athlete in question has never failed a drug test.
The 26-year-old Amusan stated in her Instagram post that she intended to contest the accusation and have her case heard by a panel of three arbitrators ahead of the 2017 World Championships.
The current world champion in the 100-meter hurdles reaffirmed her trust in her clean athlete status and said that the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) regularly tests her, including checking her just days after her third reported skipped test.
The Nigerian expressed confidence that her case will be successfully settled so she could compete in the World Championships in August.
According to a post she made on social media, Amusan was accused by the AIU, the authority in charge of addressing doping matters in track and field.
The 100-meter hurdles world record was broken by Amusan in the semifinals of the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in July of last year, dropping it from 12.20 seconds to 12.12.
Although she won the final in 12.06 seconds later that day, the time did not count as an official record due to excessive tailwind.
This season, Amusan has recorded a personal best time of 12.34 seconds, ranking her second in the world, with Olympic gold medalist Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico holding the top spot with a time of 12.31 seconds.
