An Ebute-Meta Magistrates Court in Lagos has remanded a housemaid, Joseph Ogbu, suspected of killing his employer Oreoluwa John, 36, and her 89-year-old mother, Adejoke John, at their Lagos home last Thursday.
Mr Ogbu, 22, was remanded after his arraignment on Thursday on a temporary three-count charge.
Magistrate Olanike Olagbende remanded Ogbu in prison custody on Thursday pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case was adjourned until July 30.
The Benue-born housemaid was arrested by the police on June 20 as he allegedly attempted to flee with “some valuable properties such as electronics, handsets and household items” in his employer’s Toyota Camry Salon Car.
Lagos police spokesman, Bala Elkana, had said that the suspect admitted that “his employer asked him to clean the house at about 9pm of June 19 but an argument ensued between them, which prompted him to stab her with a knife.”
The spokesman said the aged mother slumped and died as a result of shock.
