The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the governorship election in Kano State inconclusive after it collated results in the 44 local government areas of the state.

The main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Alhaji Abba Kabir have a strong lead scoring 1, 014, 474, while Abdullahi Ganduje, the incumbent of the All Progressives Congress, APC, polled 987, 819 votes.

Returning officer of the election, Professor Bello Shehu, who declared the election inconclusive, said the number of votes cancelled is higher than the number of votes that separates the two leading parties. He said 141, 694 votes were cancelled in 22 local government areas.

THEWILL recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari easily won Kano in the presidential election but Ganduje’s electoral fortune nosedived when a widely circulated video emerged showing him receiving thousands of US dollars in bribes from a contractor in the state.
