Former Ballon D’Or winner, George Weah, and one of the contenders in the ongoing Liberia presidential run-off election has expressed optimism for a favourable result.

The election, which was held on Tuesday, is being contested between Weah and Joseph Boakai, the country’s incumbent vice-president.

Although the results of the election have not been declared, there are reports that Weah has won.
Sharing his thoughts on the election on Wednesday, Weah said he is confident of the outcome.

“The Liberian people clearly made their choice yesterday and all together we are very confident in the result of the electoral process,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

The African football legend and former Ballon D’Or winner is widely regarded as a favourite in the excercise.
He had defeated Boakai in an October 10 poll but failed to secure the required 50 percent of votes.

Liberia’s National Elections Commission had earlier said Tuesday’s voting was a smooth process.
Speaking at a press conference, Jerome Korkoya, chairman of the commission, had said: “So far the election process and voting in the presidential runoff election has been smooth and there are marked improvements on the 10 October 2017 election day.

“There have been no major incidents to report of a technical nature and voting was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.”
