It was a narrow escape indeed for Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola who attended the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester on Monday night with his wife and two young daughters.
They were caught up in the terror attack at the Manchester Arena.
Cristina Serra and her daughters Valentina and Maria, however escaped any harm during the explosion which killed 22 people and injured at least 59 others.
It is also understood that several members of City’s staff were in attendance.
“Shocked. Can’t believe what happened last night. My deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims. #Ilovemanchester,” A message on Guardiola’s official Twitter account said.
Guardiola was due to fly to Abu Dhabi today, to discuss his first season in charge of the Premier League club with the club’s owners.
A club statement in response to the attack read: “The thoughts and prayers of our ownership, Board and everyone at Manchester City are with the people of Manchester and all those affected following the horrifying events of last night’s Manchester Arena attack.
“We have offered our full support throughout the night and this morning to the leaders of the City of Manchester itself and to the Emergency Services who are doing so much to support our city in these most challenging of circumstances.”
