The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Seyi Makinde, has selected former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Musa Daura, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Makinde made the announcement on Thursday during the party’s elective National Convention in Bauchi.
The Oyo State governor also said the opposition’s responsibility ahead of the 2027 general election should go beyond simply defeating the ruling party and taking power.
He argued that the priority should be to present Nigerians with a credible alternative capable of addressing the country’s challenges and securing a better future.
Makinde said the forthcoming campaign period would be dominated by political slogans, promises and declarations from candidates, but urged voters to demand substance from those seeking their support.
“As we approach 2027, therefore, I believe the task before all of us is bigger than winning an election. It is to give Nigerians a real choice about the future of their country,” Makinde said.
Daura, a former head of the country’s domestic intelligence agency, joined the APM days before the convention after leaving the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

His selection replaces Ibrahim Adamu Bala, who had earlier been announced as Makinde’s running mate but was reportedly intended to serve as a placeholder.
The new ticket now positions Makinde and Daura as the APM’s candidates as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
