The Lagos State Chairman of the Accord Party, Dele Oladeji, has rejected reports that the party has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Oladeji, who also serves as Secretary of the Forum of Accord Party Chairmen in Southern Nigeria, described the claim as inaccurate and insisted that it does not represent the party’s official position.
He made the clarification on Sunday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in reaction to comments attributed to Prof. Christopher Imumolen, a factional presidential candidate of the party.
Imumolen had reportedly claimed that Accord was supporting Tinubu’s bid for another term in office.
However, Oladeji said the party’s National Executive Committee had never considered or approved such an endorsement.
“Accord did not and will not endorse Tinubu for a second term. Any person claiming otherwise is playing politics or engaging in anti-party activities,” he said.
He maintained that no NEC meeting held since preparations for the 2027 elections began had discussed supporting the President.
“Accord has not at any time discussed any endorsement of President Tinubu at any of our NEC meetings.
“So, there is no basis whatsoever for anybody to claim that Accord has endorsed President Tinubu,” he said.

Oladeji further accused Imumolen of presenting a personal position as the party’s official stance, describing his comments as an attempt to attract media attention.
“Chris Imumolen is impersonating the Accord presidential candidate and declaring support for President Tinubu is political shadow boxing for media attention,” he said.
The party chairman also questioned Imumolen’s membership of Accord, alleging that his name was no longer contained in the party’s current membership register.
He explained that the register under which Imumolen was previously listed had been replaced by a new register introduced by the party’s national leadership in 2023.
“His name is not on the Accord membership register, as the register he was on had been phased out,” Oladeji said.
He challenged Imumolen to prove his current membership by providing evidence of his participation in recognised party activities and structures.
“If Imumolen claims otherwise, let him publish his Accord membership register and pictures of any NEC meeting attended by INEC officials,” he said.
Oladeji stated that Accord remained committed to participating in the 2027 general elections and would field candidates across various elective positions.
“Accord candidates will contest every elective position in the country, including the presidential election,” he said.
He argued that supporting the presidential candidate of another political party would run against Accord’s objectives and identity.
“Only an unserious person and political party will endorse the candidate of another party. Accord will not do such,” he said.
Oladeji consequently urged Accord members and supporters to disregard reports suggesting that the party had reached an agreement to support Tinubu’s re-election.
He stressed that any official decision by the party must come through its recognised constitutional organs and properly constituted meetings.
The chairman reiterated that Accord would maintain its independence and continue preparations to contest the 2027 elections at the federal and state levels.
