President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation; Mr. Fola Adeola, co-founder of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc; and Mr. Kola Adesina, Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, for receiving honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
UNILAG: In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the honorees for their exemplary achievements and contributions to Nigeria’s development.
Highlighting their inspiring careers, Tinubu lauded Okonjo-Iweala for her trailblazing leadership as the first African woman to head the WTO and her pivotal reforms in Nigeria’s financial sector.
Adeola was commended for his pioneering efforts in banking and his work with the FATE Foundation, which supports young Nigerian entrepreneurs.
UNILAG: Adesina, an alumnus of the university, was recognized for his transformative contributions to Nigeria’s energy sector through his leadership at Sahara Power Group.
In a congratulatory message to Adesina, Tinubu remarked, “Your visionary leadership at Sahara Power Group has ensured sustainable power solutions while elevating engineering standards and driving innovation in Nigeria.”
The President urged the honorees to continue inspiring future generations, affirming that their contributions are deeply valued by the government and the nation.
The University of Lagos conferred the trio with Doctor of Science honorary degrees (D.Sc) during its 55th convocation ceremony on January 16, 2025.
