Newcastle United’s Fabian Schar scored a remarkable 90th-minute equalizer to seal a dramatic 3-3 draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool on Wednesday.

The Swiss defender’s improvised strike came off a Bruno Guimaraes free-kick, catching Liverpool’s goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher out of position and salvaging a point for the Magpies.

Reflecting on his goal, Schar admitted it wasn’t an intentional shot but rather an attempt to keep the ball alive in a dangerous area.

“To be honest, I was on a stretch and thought I’d try to keep it in play and bring it into a dangerous area,” Schar told Amazon Prime. “But obviously, it turned out to be a great goal and a great finish.”

The goal epitomized Newcastle’s knack for disrupting the top teams this season, having already held Manchester City to a draw in September and defeated Arsenal last month.

The result leaves Newcastle in 10th place, maintaining their reputation as giant killers, while Liverpool dropped points but remained at the summit of the league. Newcastle will look to build on this momentum when they travel to face Brentford on Saturday.
