Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has celebrated the remarkable achievement of Esther Etiyemonu, a student of Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbokuta, after she emerged as the state’s one-day governor.
Sanwo-Olu received Etiyemonu at the Lagos House on Monday, following her victory at the 21st Lagos Spelling Bee Competition, which earned her the symbolic leadership role for a day.
Sharing the moment on X, the governor applauded her commitment, discipline, and outstanding performance, describing her as a shining example of excellence among young people in the state.
“Her confidence, focus, and hard work stand out. She represents the very best of our youth, and I am incredibly proud of her achievements,” Sanwo-Olu wrote.
As he formally handed over his seat, he encouraged the young achiever to keep striving for greatness.
“Esther, all of Lagos is rooting for you and your bright future. Congratulations once again,” he added.

Etiyemonu was accompanied by the one-day deputy governor, Awoyemi Dorcas; the one-day Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Salami Jumai Olaide; and their parents.
The governor also praised Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, for initiating the one-day governor programme, noting that the initiative continues to inspire and groom young leaders across Lagos State.
