In a revealing interview with Beat FM, rising Afrobeats sensation Ruger opened up about the pivotal role played by senior colleague Davido Adeleke in nurturing his career, long before he achieved household fame.
During the discussion, prompted by Davido’s mention of “The Big Five” in a previous interview, which included Ruger, the emerging artist shared the behind-the-scenes story of his relationship with the A-list star.
Ruger disclosed that his path crossed with Davido in 2020, a year prior to his meteoric rise to prominence in 2021. He expressed gratitude for Davido’s unwavering support, emphasizing that the renowned artist had been championing his music for an extended period.
In Ruger’s own words, “Davido is someone who has been in my corner right from the inception of my career, even before I burst onto the scene in 2021. Our encounter dates back to 2020 when he came across some of my songs and was captivated by them. What’s remarkable is that he started creating awareness for my music even before I dropped my first official track. Burna Boy has also lent his support, notably during the O2 Arena performance in 2021.”
This heartwarming narrative underscores the mentorship and camaraderie within the Nigerian music industry, highlighting the profound impact that established artists like Davido have in nurturing emerging talents like Ruger.
