The Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s invitation to a meeting at the Government House, citing improper communication channels.
The governor, through the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, had invited the lawmakers to discuss key issues, including the provision of a sitting space for the Assembly, payment of outstanding allowances, and the presentation of the 2025 budget.
However, lawmakers loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike dismissed the invitation, criticising Fubara for extending it through social media instead of official communication.
Meanwhile, former local government chairmen under Wike’s administration joined in mocking the governor, reinforcing the political tension in the state. Amid the crisis, the state’s APC faction has welcomed Fubara’s move, hoping it will ease the rift between the executive and legislative arms.
