The House of Representatives has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to immediately block all pornographic websites nationwide.

The directive was issued during Tuesday’s plenary, with lawmakers insisting that internet service providers (ISPs) must restrict access to such platforms to uphold societal values.
The motion, sponsored by Dalhatu Tafoki, a lawmaker representing Faskari/Kankara/Sabuwa Federal Constituency, emphasised the need to combat the rising influence of cyber pornography in Nigeria.
Tafoki argued that Nigeria, being a religious nation, should follow the lead of several Asian, African, and Middle Eastern countries that have enacted similar bans.
“Cyber pornography is becoming a global problem, yet no concrete steps have been taken to curb it in Nigeria. Renowned psychologists warn of its negative impact, including the promotion of adultery, prostitution, addiction, and desensitisation,” Tafoki stated.
Following a voice vote, the House adopted the motion, mandating its Committees on Communications and Legislative Compliance to oversee implementation and report back within four weeks.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas also cautioned that sanctions would be imposed on internet providers who fail to comply with the directive.
