President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a stern warning to his cabinet, stating that he is prepared to dismiss 48 ministers if they fail to perform their duties. He made this declaration during the opening of a three-day Cabinet Retreat at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Tinubu emphasized his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities as President and urged his cabinet members not to obstruct Nigeria’s progress. He acknowledged that he is human and may make mistakes, but he assured that if errors are identified, he will promptly rectify them.
The President stressed to his ministers and aides that they are there to assist him in achieving success. He stated, “You are here to help me succeed. If you are performing, there’s nothing to fear. If you miss the objective, we will review it. If you don’t perform, you leave us… Don’t be a hindrance to Nigeria’s progress.”
Tinubu emphasized that he is the President for all Nigerians, regardless of their political affiliations, and he aims to strengthen the nation’s unity. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and promised that foreign investors would find a welcoming environment in Nigeria.
At the end of the retreat, participants will sign a performance bond with the President. The administration will focus on key areas, including food security, poverty eradication, economic growth, and job creation, among others. Tinubu emphasized the need for accountability and periodic performance reviews.
The President also acknowledged the importance of healthcare and quality education in combating poverty. He assured foreign investors that they could invest and repatriate their gains without obstacles. All ministers and ministers of state were present at the retreat, except for the Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, who was not in attendance.
