Nine proteges of controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, were on Thursday arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, over an alleged attack on officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

The defendants—Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26)—were slammed with five-count charges, including felony, assault, and possession of dangerous weapons.

Court Grants ₦5 Million Bail Each

Police prosecutor Sunday Ekong told the court that the accused, along with Portable (who is currently at large), assaulted and obstructed three town planners—Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero—while they were carrying out official duties at Odogwu Bar, owned by Portable in Sango-Ota.

Ekong alleged that the suspects were armed with cutlasses and guns, with an alleged intent to kill. Their actions, he noted, violate Sections 516, 356(3), 80, 249(d), and 320 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State (2006).

Presiding magistrate O.M. Somefun granted the defendants ₦5 million bail each, with licensed bondmen registered with the Ogun State government as sureties. The case was adjourned to March 17.

Portable Reacts, Accuses Government of Targeting Him

Reacting to the incident, Portable took to social media to express frustration after Ogun State authorities sealed his uncompleted building and hotel over an alleged lack of approval permit.

The singer claimed that the crackdown led to the arrest of over 20 people, including his artistes, customers, and other associates. He further alleged that officials confiscated vehicles, motorcycles, and phones belonging to those at the scene.

According to Portable, the building was not just for selling drinks but was being used to host events and entertainment shows.
