The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook predicting a mix of dust haze, thunderstorms, and rainfall across various regions of the country between Monday and Wednesday, urging residents to remain vigilant.

According to NiMet’s forecast released on Sunday in Abuja, slight dust haze with good visibility is expected on Monday over Borno, Zamfara, northern Kaduna, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina States.

The agency also predicted that parts of Taraba and Adamawa States may experience isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rain during the afternoon or evening hours on Monday.

In the central region, sunny conditions with intermittent clouds are anticipated, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain expected later in the day in the FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi States.

“Cloudy conditions are expected in the southern region on Monday morning, with isolated thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States. Later in the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are anticipated in Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States,” the statement read.

For Tuesday, NiMet forecast that slight dust haze will persist over northern states, while isolated thunderstorms and light rain may continue in Taraba and Adamawa throughout the day.

Sunny skies with occasional clouds are expected in the central region, with early morning thunderstorms possible in Benue and moderate rainfall later in the FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi States.

The southern region is likely to experience cloudy conditions in the morning, followed by moderate rainfall over Rivers, Cross River, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom, which could intensify later in the day. The agency warned of potential flooding in Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River, advising local authorities to prepare emergency response measures where necessary.

On Wednesday, northern states are forecast to have sunny skies, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain expected later in the day, especially in parts of Taraba State.

“The central region will experience sunny skies with patches of clouds, while isolated thunderstorms with light rain are likely over Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory. In the south, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rains later in the afternoon and evening across Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom,” NiMet stated.

The agency reiterated the high risk of flash floods, urging motorists to drive cautiously during rainfall and for authorities in vulnerable areas to implement flood response plans immediately.

NiMet also advised people with asthma and other respiratory conditions to reduce outdoor exposure due to dust particles in the northern regions. Airline operators were reminded to obtain airport-specific weather updates from the agency, while the public is encouraged to follow NiMet’s official channels for continuous updates.
