A High Court in Nasarawa State has ordered the remand of Timilehin Ajayi, an acclaimed gospel singer, following his arrest for the alleged murder and dismemberment of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Salome Adaidu.
The Nasarawa State Police Command announced the remand via its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Friday, stating: “Timilehin Ajayi was charged to court today and remanded in prison custody pending his formal arraignment.”
Timilehin Ajayi was reportedly caught by church members near a river acting suspiciously. He was seen discarding a bag, which was later retrieved and found to contain the severed head of Adaidu.
A Chilling Confession
Ajayi admitted to the crime, claiming Adaidu, who was allegedly his girlfriend, had been unfaithful. However, he shockingly stated that he had no regrets for his actions.
Family’s Counterclaims
The deceased’s family disputes Ajayi’s claims of a romantic relationship. They allege Adaidu was kidnapped, dismissing reports that she willingly visited Ajayi.
Public Outrage
The incident, which has sparked widespread condemnation, adds to ongoing debates about ritual killings and safety concerns in Nigeria. The court’s decision to remand Ajayi marks the beginning of what is expected to be a high-profile trial.
This case has left many calling for justice and a thorough investigation to ensure accountability for the heinous crime.
