For guests who expected to see Nollywood actresses, Funke Akindele and Mercy Aigbe, it was a huge disappointment.
Known to be A-list actors, many fans expected them to be present at the burial of Iyabo Ojo’s mum.
“Even if they weren’t present, Funke didn’t bother to put up a post on social media to commiserate with her. I am sure she could come up with an excuse that she sent condolence messages to her privately, but she could have shown more solidarity for her on Instagram,” an actor who craved anonymity told Kemi Ashefon exclusively.
Though there is an unspoken rivalry between Mercy Aigbe and Iyabo Ojo in Nollywood, they still manage not to make it obvious.
The amazing thing about these Nollywood actresses, Mercy Aigbe and Iyabo Ojo is the fact that their birthdays are celebrated 11 days apart. Iyabo’s comes first with a December 20 birth date, while Mercy Aigbe’s is January 1.
Moreover, they are both pretty actresses. Both are popular. Both have a large fan base. Both were once married. Both are now divorced. Both are single mum of two (a boy and a girl). Both have teenage daughters of same age (18years) and surprisingly, both are entrepreneurs.
“I don’t blame Mercy Aigbe for not attending or showing solidarity to Iyabo on her mum’s death. When Mercy’s dad died two years ago, she didn’t bother to carry anyone along especially her colleagues. She gave the dad a shoddy burial in Edo State and ran back to Lagos to continue her life as a slay queen.’ She doesn’t identify with her family and her mum just started living with her when her younger sister died. Mercy is too self-centred and would not want to spend money on her family because she believed they didn’t help her when she needed them, Though she put up a condolence post for Iyabo concerning her mum, Mercy wasn’t present at the Wake-keep nor at the interment ,” another source told Kemi Ashefon.
For Funke Akindele, many should not really express surprise that she ignored Iyabo’s mum’s funeral ceremonies.
“Funke didn’t even attend her father’s burial and only posted he died on Instagram. After that announcement that her dad died, she was later reported to have shunned the funeral rites and travelled to Dubai with Eniola Badmus instead. She foolishly uploaded the Dubai photos when she should have been at her dad’s burial,” another source said.
Though these two prominent actresses weren’t in attendance, the ilk of Toyin Abraham and Saidi Balogun were present to show support.
