The Lagos State Government has ordered an investigation into the death of a woman identified as Elena Jessica, who reportedly died after suffering severe complications following a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure.
The incident came to public attention after Jessica’s sister, Nelli, announced her passing on social media, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding the surgery.
According to her, the procedure was carried out at Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Hospital located in the Ikoyi area. She alleged that the use of unsterilised medical equipment contributed to the complications that led to her sister’s death.
Nelli explained that Jessica underwent liposuction along with fat transfer surgery to the hips, buttocks, and calves on February 6, 2026.
However, within two days of the procedure, Jessica reportedly began experiencing severe pain and significant swelling in the areas where the surgery had been performed. Medical tests later showed that her white blood cell count had risen sharply, suggesting a serious infection, while her blood levels had dropped to a critical level, requiring multiple transfusions.
Responding to the allegations, the hospital said Jessica had previously undergone a cosmetic procedure at a different medical facility and had visited their clinic specifically for a corrective treatment.
Reacting to the reports, Abiola Idowu, the permanent secretary of the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), confirmed that authorities have begun an official investigation.
“The Lagos State Government, through the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), has commenced a full investigation into the reported death of a Lagos socialite popularly known as ‘Elena,’ who allegedly died after undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) cosmetic procedure at a clinic in the state,” the statement read in part.

Idowu also stressed that although the clinic involved is registered with the regulatory body, its status does not exempt it from scrutiny when patient safety is in question.
“The development follows reports circulating on social media alleging that the young woman developed complications after the aesthetic procedure, which reportedly occurred either during or shortly after the surgery.
“While details of the incident are still being verified, the State Government has assured the public that a thorough, professional, and transparent investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event.”
