House Of Reps Halts Abuja Tinted Glass Ban Enforcement

The House of Representatives has directed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command to suspend its enforcement of the tinted glass ban in Abuja, granting a 90-day grace period for public awareness and compliance.

This resolution followed a motion by Mukhtar Tolani Shagaya, who highlighted the hardships caused by the tinted glass ban, including harassment of motorists and impounded vehicles. The House instructed the Police Command to release all impounded vehicles and cease related punitive actions.

Additionally, the Committee on Police Affairs was tasked to work with police leadership to create clear enforcement guidelines for such directives.

The Federal Ministry of Information and Culture has been urged to collaborate with stakeholders on a public enlightenment campaign, ensuring citizens understand the regulations and the process for obtaining permits or modifying their vehicles.

The tinted glass ban, initially aimed at curbing criminal activities like kidnappings, faced criticism for poor public awareness and inadequate time for compliance, leading to undue strain on residents and businesses.
