500K Deposit: A man who claims to have worked at the hospital accused of demanding a N500,000 deposit before attending to a pregnant woman who later died has come out to defend the medical facility.
The man, identified as Jimoh Abdulrahman Sadiq, said the grieving husband was misleading the public in order to avoid blame for what truly happened.
Recall that the heart-wrenching story went viral online after the man claimed that his wife died because the hospital refused to treat her until a N500K deposit was paid.
But in a lengthy post, Jimoh said the woman was already in a critical condition when she arrived at the hospital on February 18. He explained that she had suffered convulsions due to eclampsia and was severely anemic.
“She needed an emergency blood transfusion and a caesarean section at the same time,” he said. “The hospital immediately referred her to a general hospital in Epe because they could not handle such a serious case.”
He stressed that there was no delay and no demand for money before the referral was made.
Jimoh also criticised the husband for not registering his wife for antenatal care, which he said could have helped detect the complications earlier.
“This is a hospital that prioritises life over money,” he said. “While I worked there, the owner took care of patients who couldn’t pay their bills for months.”
The hospital had earlier denied the N500K deposit allegation, insisting that they referred the patient quickly for better care.
