Grammys 2025: Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, delivered a heartfelt acceptance speech after winning the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards for her song Love Me JeJe.

Taking the stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, an emotional Tems expressed deep gratitude, dedicating the win to her mother, whose birthday falls the following day.

“Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team,” she said.

Grammys 2025: She continued, “Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammy. I just want to thank you, ma, because she has really done a lot for me and my brother. Happy birthday, mum.”

Tems also extended appreciation to her team, saying, “Muyiwa, Wale, my beautiful stylist, and lovely girls… I love you guys. Thank you so much. To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much.”

This marks Tems’ second Grammy win, following her first award for her contribution to Future’s hit single Wait For U.

Grammys 2025: Her victory in the Best African Music Performance category was a moment of pride for Nigeria, as all nominees—including Yemi Alade (Tomorrow), Asake (MMS), Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay (Sensational), and Burna Boy (Higher)—were Nigerian artists.

The category, introduced in 2024 and first won by South Africa’s Tyla for Water, continues to highlight Africa’s global influence in music.

With this latest achievement, Tems solidifies her status as one of the most celebrated African artists on the global stage.
