Founder Of Popular Mama Cass Restaurants, Charis Onabowale Dies  At 76

Mrs Charis Grace Onabowale, the founder of popular Lagos eatery, Mama Cass has passed away at the age of 76 years.

British-blood (born March 28, 1948) Charis was married to a Nigerian medical practitioner, Tunde Onabowale.

A mother of four— two males and two females, Charis during her lifetime, was a very private person. Not even her success made her step out of the borderline.

Those who shared close relationship with her attest to her humility and entrepreneurial spirit, which has rubbed off positively on her children.

Her demise occurred on October 31, 2024 and she will be laid to rest this weekend.

Activities for the burial of the deceased businesswoman started on Wednesday with a service of songs.

One of her last major celebrations was her 75th birthday last year.

Late Mrs Charis Onabowale opened the first Mama Cass Restaurant at Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos on in November 1983.

The first outlet carried for the first time the brand “Mama Cass Cafeteria”.

Mama Cass Restaurants later became a chain of about 14 quick service restaurants in Lagos and expanded expanded its service locations to other parts of the country, including Ogun, Edo and FCT and also in the United Kingdom.
