A major fire broke out on Wednesday evening at the Great Nigeria Insurance House, a multi-storey plaza on Martins Street, Lagos Island, trapping several traders inside.
The blaze, which reportedly started around 5 pm, affected the building, primarily used as a warehouse and sales centre for clothing materials.
Confirming the incident, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said no casualties had been recorded so far. She added that the fire was raging up to the fifth floor of the 25-storey building and that firefighting efforts were ongoing.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call, and the Ebute Elefun and Dolphin Fire Stations responded swiftly, with support from the Sari Iganmu and Alausa headquarters,” Adeseye stated.
