A kidnapped female medical doctor, Ganiyat Popoola, has regained her freedom ten months after she was abducted in December 2023, by bandits in Kaduna

Ganiyat, a Registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology, at the National Eye Centre, Kaduna, was abducted alongside her husband, Nurudeen Popoola (a military officer) and her nephew, Folaranmi Abdul-Mugni, who lives with them

The kidnappers had earlier demanded N40 million ransom, which was paid after which they released her husband on March 8, 2024, while keeping Dr Popoola and her nephew.

President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr Tope Osundara disclosed Thursday, that Dr Popoola and her nephew were freed on Wednesday evening.
