Popular gospel singer, Tope Alabi, is at the centre of social media drama after allegedly refusing to perform at Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin’s surprise birthday celebration.

According to online reports, the singer was hired by fans of Lizzy Anjorin in the diaspora, with a payment of ₦4 million made in advance. However, things took a dramatic turn when Tope Alabi reportedly arrived at the event venue—only to discover that the celebrant was Lizzy Anjorin.
The gospel singer allegedly refused to exit her car, citing personal reasons for her decision not to perform. She later returned home and was said to have refunded the money.
In a video response on Saturday, an outraged Lizzy Anjorin slammed the gospel star for backing out at the last minute, saying she would not be bullied by anyone.
“Aunty Tope, my fans paid you ₦4 million, and I have the evidence with me,” Lizzy stated. “Even if you were paid ₦500,000, were you not once an actress? In acting, we’re trained to kiss our enemy on set if needed.”
The actress also defended herself, explaining that she had no idea about the arrangement made by her fans.
“I’m a Muslim. I didn’t expect my fans to invite a gospel singer. They should have gone for an Islamic singer,” she added.
As of now, Tope Alabi has not publicly addressed the incident, but the controversy continues to trend online, with fans and critics reacting to both sides of the story.
