Chief Edwin Clark, a prominent South-South National Leader and elder statesman, has issued a warning regarding the potential consequences of the impeachment of Rivers State Governor Siminalaye Fubara.
Clark’s warning comes in response to the setting ablaze of the Rivers House of Assembly, which he alleges is part of a plan to destabilize the state and remove the governor.
Clark stated that the intention is to remove the governor, force the deputy governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, to resign, and install the Speaker of the House of Assembly as the governor. He strongly warned against allowing this to happen and emphasized that the consequences would be dire for the stability of the region and the national economy.
The elder statesman expressed concern about the potential return of political crises to Rivers State and called on President Bola Tinubu to direct security agencies in Rivers to prevent any crisis. He urged the president to act swiftly to avert the unfolding crisis in Rivers in the interest of his administration and the nation’s democracy.
Clark also emphasized the importance of upholding the tenets of constitutional democracy and not allowing vested interests to do as they please, as Nigeria is a democracy.
