At 73, and for who has been vibrant on social media, many were taken by surprise when he revealed how he battled with prostate cancer in 2023.
For Charles Oputa aka Charly Boy, it was time to thank God for surviving this ordeal and he shared an Instagram post on Thursday that expressed his gratitude to his maker.
Charly Boy disclosed that he survived an illness that has killed many and for that, he is grateful.
Popularly called Area Fada, the king of Punk in Nigeria shared a video of himself receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Captioning the video, he wrote: “Many things bin happen dis year 2023. The good, the bad and the ugly. But most importantly, I cheated death for something wey no suppose kill us but has killed many. Am a Prostate Cancer Survivor✔️👍🏾 God, am grateful.
“I know say dis year remain small but still by his Grace, me and everybody reading dis, shall see 2024😎🎼🕺💃🏼Iseee!!”
Married to Lady Diana, Charly Boy is said to have become a born-again Christian. His wife of almost 47 years revealed in an interview what her husband is made of:
“Charles has always been spiritual, has always given himself to service. He has always been an inspiration to millions of frustrated Nigerian youths. His lifestyle has made thousands chase their own dreams with tenacity and never gave up on themselves. Yes, people were not too sure what to make of him, because of his theatrics; he kept confusing people who couldn’t see the humour or the sense in how he was acting out. Charles has always been about how he can add value to his environment and the people he meets. He may not have been a regular church-goer but has remained a Christian by his actions. I guess the difference now is that people are seeing and reporting more of his works and the value he promotes than all the stunts he pulls by keeping the people guessing. But yes he is calmer now, more at peace now and more spiritual. “
