Bukayo Saka’s brilliant double and Kai Havertz’s late strike powered Arsenal to a decisive 3-0 win against Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday, edging them closer to securing a last-16 spot.
Saka scored in both halves, including a crucial 78th-minute goal after forcing a mistake from Monaco’s goalkeeper. Havertz sealed the win in the 88th minute by converting Saka’s deflected shot.
The victory, Arsenal’s fourth in six European games this season, lifted Mikel Arteta’s side to third place in the revamped league phase, leaving them in control of their destiny for a top-eight finish and automatic last-16 qualification.
Despite defensive injuries forcing midfielders like Thomas Partey to play out of position and starting 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back, Arsenal dominated.
Bukayo Saka’s performance earned him the Player of the Match accolade in the Champions League, while Monaco failed to capitalize on Arsenal’s brief second-half lapse.
With two matches remaining against Dinamo Zagreb and Girona, Arsenal remains confident of securing their place in the next round.
