The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, on Monday, January 17, 2022, celebrated his 51st coronation anniversary.
The 83-year-old monarch, whose 50th anniversary celebration in 2021 held low-key in accordance with COVID-19 protocol guidelines, had many dignitaries in attendance.
Amidst the roll call of dignitaries were the beautiful young wives of the monarch who were all attired in silver coloured aso-ebi.
Even the ageing queens were not left out of the august event.
But conspicuously absent were former Queens—Badirat, Anu and Damilola Adeyemi—who left the ancient Oyo palace in 2021.
The three runaway queens now live in Lagos.
Badirat and Anu have delved into fashion and currently modeling for brands. Badirat, a mum of three boys has been globetrotting to fashion cities including Paris. Obviously undeterred by her exit from the Oyo palace, Badirat, who was once the monarch’s favorite, seems to be enjoying the new lease of life.
Same could be said of Anu, who left the Alaafin’s harem in controversial circumstances in 2021. A mother of two, she totally ignores the palace and other activities posted about the Alaafin on social media.
She is now a Lagos-based fashion entrepreneur.
For former queen Damilola, life seems not to have been as good as that of what was obtained in Oyo.
Though she apologized for her misconducts to the Iku Baba Yeye, she never returned to the palace in Oyo.
Damilola has since become a brand influencer on Instagram. She seeks adverts from other brands to post on her page.
Meanwhile, its pomp and pageantry in the ancient tow of Oyo as many of the monarch’s subjects are still congratulating him for being alive 51 years after he ascended the throne.
