After spending nearly seven weeks in Canada, the Alaafin of Oyo-designate, Oba Akeem Owoade, arrived at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja, on Wednesday evening.
Owoade is set to journey to Oyo town today (Thursday), where he will commence traditional rites ahead of his official coronation on April 5.
Owoade’s return follows his January 13 installation by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who presented him with his certificate and staff of office. Shortly after, Owoade travelled to Canada to finalise his resignation from his businesses and professional engagements.
His return has been met with excitement in Oyo, with indigenes planning a grand welcome. Meanwhile, traditional enthronement rites will soon begin, including seclusion at the Ipebi and rituals at Koso chamber, leading up to his formal installation.
Despite legal challenges from rival contenders disputing his appointment, preparations for the coronation continue in full swing.
