It’s obvious Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, widow of  former governor of Ondo State Rotimi Akeredolu would not cease warring with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Recently, she lashed out at her late husband’s niece, Funke Akeredolu-Aruna and called her a ‘bloody serpent’ for backing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa ahead of the state’s governorship election in November.

Aiyedatiwa, formerly Ondo deputy governor, was sworn in as governor on December 27, 2023, following Akeredolu’s death.

Aiyedatiwa faces stiff opposition to secure the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party prepares for its primary in April. Many of Akeredolu’s supporters have accused him of betraying his former boss.

In a post on Instagram on Monday, Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu wrote about Akeredolu-Aruna with this caption:

“Behold the face of Aketi’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, the former deputy chief protocol to Aketi, shamelessly parades as ‘I am lucky’ Bloody serpent! Time will tell if she is truly lucky.”

Known not to suffer fools gladly, recall that during her husband’s funeral service which was held on February 23 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral Anglican Church, Imola, Owo, Anyanwu-Akeredolu said her husband was termed a weakling because he loved his Igbo wife so much despite being Yoruba.

She said, “Darlin,….It’s me, your adorable Betty. You just left me just like that! It hurts. Badly it hurts. Now alone to face all manners of mockery from the so-called friends and adversaries alike.

“Not a few lashed out that you were a weakling because you loved me. A beg o! Can an Amotekun generalsimo be a weakling? Mbanuu! It doesn’t add up nau. Haba By the way, do they know what love is? I don’t think so.

“In their homes while growing up they saw their mothers trampled upon as doormats. Beaten up like punchbags.

“They copied the template and treated their wives as pieces of furniture that can be easily discarded as trash.”

Meanwhile, the late governor’s didn’t allow this slide.

She reacted to her uncle’s widow’s statement swiftly.

Formerly Akeredolu’s deputy chief protocol officer, she said: “I happened to be one of the assistant conveners of Orimisan Lucky Aiyedatiwa Women in Ondo State, a supporting group for his reelection.

“It was during the programme that they took my picture. It is just politics and I want to believe that it is the opposition that took that picture and started sending it around to blackmail me.

“I think that is where the late governor’s wife now got the picture and you know she was disappointed that I’m not in their camp.

“Everybody knows I’m in Lucky’s camp. I have always been there when the whole shenanigans started.

“What happened between the late governor and Aiyedatiwa is just pure politics. Even on the issue of impeachment.

“Mummy that is fighting me and attacking me now, has her reason because she is not supporting this present governor. At least from Lucky’s side, he gave my uncle a befitting burial which I think he did quite well.”
