The hall, which is situated in the Ikeja axis of Lagos was full to the brim. It was a wedding ceremony and many Nigerians living in the United Kingdom, United States of America and other countries had trooped in to celebrate with the couple.
Based in Manchester, the bride Funmilayo Racheal and husband Olanrewaju Luqman, definitely lit up the social sphere on Saturday August 12, 2023.
But they didn’t notice that one of their guests wasn’t at ease all through the party. Her eyes darted back and forth. She was like a fish out of water.
That has been the life of notorious London blogger, Basirat Tolulope Adeoye Olowogaba aka Abike Jagaban.
Abike, since she has been told that she would be arrested anytime she returns to Nigeria after her frivolous podcast announcing the ‘death’ of beautiful Queen Sekinat Aramide Elegushi, has dodged publicity.
“Abike Jagaban has been living in fear. She has also been living life on a low key in order to divert attention from her personality. You know some important Nigerian lawyers have threatened to arrest and prosecute her for podcasting Oloori Seki’s ‘death’? In fact, she has been warned by friends to stop visiting Nigeria in order to evade arrest,” sources close to the Facebook blogger revealed.
Since her fake podcast, Abike, who was living the life of a ‘celebrity’ has withdrawn into her shell.
Since she made a ‘show’ on Facebook and announced the death of Queen Sekinat Aramide Elegushi, there has been much unsettling in many quarters.
First, Nigerians—home and abroad—have rained curses on her when they discovered that Oba Saheed Elegushi’s wife, Sekinat, is alive and well.
Maybe if some persons who she thought would rise up for her had done so, she would still be her former boisterous self.
“But then the ilks of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has washed his hands off her case. When Olori Eyo, Akinsiku, one of the prominent chiefs in Lagos, called him to report Abike’s ill conducts, Ooni denied knowing her and revealed that he has barred her from visiting his palace in Ile Ife, Osun State.
“Now that she is in Nigeria, she came to check if the Elegushis (who have kept mum on the issue) are still angry and to allegedly beg for money from some very important Nigerians she namedrops on social media,” sources said.
Abike, when prosecuted, risks three years imprisonment for the fake podcast.
The provisions of S 24 of the Cybercrime Act of 2015 specifically criminalizes the act of sharing fake news.
