Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially opened Joseph and Esther Homes, a residential centre for senior citizens established by veteran Nollywood actress Sola Sobowale in Ibadan.
The commissioning took place on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with guests, dignitaries and well-wishers in attendance. The ceremony was also broadcast live on the actress’s Instagram page.
Photographs from the event showed guests gathered on a green lawn, with a red carpet stretching towards the podium beneath blue and white decorations.
Joseph and Esther Homes is designed to offer older people a secure environment where they can live independently while enjoying dignity, personalised support and a sense of community.
The facility operates under the tagline, “Live Well, Age Well, Thrive Together,” and describes itself as “A Place to Call Home”.
Details on its official website indicate that the project seeks to transform the experience of ageing in Nigeria by bringing together thoughtfully designed residences, professional care and opportunities for social interaction. Its full launch is scheduled for the later part of 2026.
The centre is founded on the belief that families should receive assistance in looking after their ageing relatives rather than have their responsibilities taken away from them.
“We do not replace family. We help families care better,” the company stated on its website.
It further explained the challenges relatives face when caring for elderly parents, particularly when work commitments, family responsibilities or living abroad make regular physical visits difficult.

“Caring for an ageing parent is hard, especially when work, family or living abroad make it impossible to always be there. Through professional care, a safe home and regular communication, we give families the reassurance of knowing their loved one is supported, respected and surrounded by people who genuinely care. Whether you live nearby or thousands of miles away, you remain an important part of their life.”
For Sobowale, who is widely recognised for her roles in Nollywood productions, the project represents an expansion into elderly care, an area addressing the need for professional support and suitable living arrangements for older Nigerians.
Makinde’s presence at the commissioning also highlights the state government’s support for private-sector efforts aimed at improving social welfare and care services.
Following the unveiling, the management of Joseph and Esther Homes announced that families interested in the facility could register through its official website and schedule a virtual consultation.
