President Bola Tinubu has attributed the hunger and poverty challenges in Nigeria to his political opponents, insisting that his administration is taking steps to tackle the problems.
The President spoke on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign flag-off rally held at Ranchers Bees Stadium, also known as Kaduna Township Stadium, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing supporters at the event, Tinubu challenged opposition figures who have criticised his administration over the economic difficulties facing Nigerians.
“I have an argument. I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger, they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” the President said.
Tinubu also highlighted his administration’s record on the payment of salaries while commending state governors for what he described as their development efforts.
“We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working. I am proud of them. They are developing,” he said.
The President expressed appreciation to Kaduna residents for their support during the 2023 presidential election, recalling that their votes contributed to his emergence as president.
“You gave me joy to remember the victory you gave me to become president. I come again to thank you,” he said.

Tinubu subsequently appealed to Nigerians to support his bid for another term in office, saying he was determined to continue pursuing prosperity, continuity, progress and development.
He also spoke directly to Nigerian children at the rally, describing his administration’s commitment to securing the nation’s future as a promise, although the available transcription did not capture the completion of his statement.
The Kaduna event formally marked the launch of the APC’s presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 elections, with party leaders, supporters and members from different parts of the country converging at the stadium to mobilise support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.
