Babadunni Olayemi, personal assistant to late gospel singer ToluwaniSings, has recounted efforts to get medical attention for the singer after he suddenly slumped in Ibadan, Oyo State, saying he was taken to between seven and eight hospitals without success.

According to Babadunni, some of the hospitals reportedly declined to attend to the singer, while others cited the unavailability of doctors due to an ongoing strike.

ToluwaniSings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. He was known for gospel songs such as A Very Big God and Onibuore and had reportedly performed at a worship event a day before his death.

Speaking about the incident on Thursday, Babadunni said he was away when the singer slumped but rushed to the scene after receiving a call.

“I am Babadunni Gbolabo. I am the PA to ToluwaniSings. When it happened in the morning, I wasn’t here, so they called me and I came,” he said.

He explained that the singer had shown no signs of illness before the incident, adding that people around him attempted to revive him before taking him to several hospitals for treatment.

“There was nothing wrong with him. He was very fine and in perfect condition. He just slumped. They tried to resuscitate him. They went helter-skelter. They took him to some hospitals, but they were giving excuses.

“Some said doctors were not working because of the strike. Some did not admit him at all. That is how it went. We tried our best, including prayers. We took him to up to seven to eight hospitals in Ibadan, but God said his time was up,” Babadunni said.

The aide said the singer’s body had been deposited in a mortuary, while the family was expected to determine the next steps after meeting and consulting on the situation.

He noted that the family members were still coming to terms with the loss and had yet to conclude the necessary arrangements.

“The family members are here. So, we are all just managing the situation, as the body is currently at the mortuary. Once the family members hold their meeting and are clear on things, that is when we will know the next step to take.

“But they haven’t done the necessary things. Whatever they conclude upon arrival, that is what we will execute,” he said.

The singer’s death was confirmed by his family, according to an earlier report by PUNCH.

ToluwaniSings gained recognition among gospel music listeners and worshippers through his songs, particularly A Very Big God and Onibuore. His reported performance at a worship gathering on Tuesday preceded his sudden collapse and death the following day.
