President Bola Tinubu has said he will leave much of the All Progressives Congress’ campaign mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election to party leaders, explaining that his presidential duties require him to focus on governance, financial obligations and attracting long-term investments.
Tinubu made this known on Wednesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, where he urged members to take the party’s message to voters across the country while he continued to handle affairs of state.
The President acknowledged concerns that campaign activities could distract him from his responsibilities, agreeing that Nigeria needed his attention as the administration pursued its economic and governance priorities.
“You’ve warned me not to allow the rigour of the campaign to distract me from governance, I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now,” Tinubu said.
He subsequently told the council members not to expect him to accompany them to every campaign event, noting that the country had financial commitments that could not be ignored.
“So, you will excuse me from going everywhere with you, we have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” the President said.
Tinubu also highlighted the need to attract investors prepared to establish businesses in Nigeria and commit resources to the country’s long-term economic development.
According to him, the administration wants investors who will remain in the country and contribute to creating opportunities for future generations.
“We want those investors to come in, be here to stay, to invest for the future of our children,” he said.
Although he intends to limit his attendance at campaign outings, Tinubu assured party members that he would still make time to address Nigerians directly as the council coordinates mobilisation across states and local government areas.
“However, I will still make time to speak directly with Nigerians, even as you lead the campaign in the states and local government areas,” he said.
The President described the council’s inauguration as more than the formal creation of a campaign structure, saying it represented a renewed commitment between the APC and Nigerians.

“We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council. We have gathered to renew a covenant. A covenant with Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party,” he said.
He charged members to communicate the administration’s vision, records and policy agenda to voters nationwide, expressing confidence in their ability to secure victory for the ruling party in the 2027 election.
“This council will carry our vision, our records and our agenda to every Nigerian, and it will carry them to victory every ward of this country,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu also congratulated APC members on completing the party’s congresses, recalling predictions that the exercise would lead to a major internal crisis.
He said the party had overcome the anticipated difficulties and completed the process, with participation extending from ward-level members to the national leadership.
“They said there will be implosion. We passed through it. We did not fail. You didn’t let us down. We got here together,” he said.
The President further challenged campaign council members to demonstrate their commitment by delivering votes in their respective wards during the 2027 general election.
He maintained that their work would only be considered complete when they had fulfilled that responsibility at the polls.
“No one gets credit for an incomplete assignment. So, until you deliver the next election, until you deliver your wards, until you deliver the votes, before we can say thank you,” he said.
Expressing appreciation for the support he received from party members during the previous election, Tinubu reiterated that the inauguration marked a fresh pledge to Nigerians and the responsibilities entrusted to the APC as the governing party.
“The APC is ready. We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council; we have gathered to renew a covenant, a covenant with the Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party. We promise we will not let them down,” he said.
Tinubu ended his remarks by praising party members and expressing confidence in the outcome of their efforts, telling them they would share in the celebration if they accomplished the task ahead.
“I celebrate you. I celebrate you, no doubt about that. Nigeria will continue to celebrate you. You will see the joy of this victory. You will share in the joy,” he said.
