Twelve people have been killed and 309 others injured following an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking the third reported assault on the facility within a week.
The Saudi Gazette, an English-language newspaper, reported on Sunday, citing the country’s General Authority of Civil Aviation, that the latest incident occurred on Saturday, October 10.
According to the report, the deceased comprised four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshis and one citizen each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.
The civil aviation authority said all those injured had been taken to hospitals for medical attention, although some remained in critical condition.
It added that the incident damaged parts of the airport, while assessments were being carried out to establish the full extent of the destruction.
Airport operations were temporarily halted following the attack to allow officials to inspect the affected facilities, assess safety conditions and protect passengers, workers and aviation infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Saudi authorities and the Saudi-led coalition had accused Yemen’s Houthi group of carrying out the attack.
