The Lagos State Government has warned motorists against excessive speeding and reckless driving on the Coastal Road, saying offenders who endanger other road users will face arrest and prosecution.

The warning followed a fatal accident on Friday along the Coastal Road inward Eko Hotel, where one person died and three others sustained serious injuries.

The crash involved a grey Lexus Jeep 350 with registration number LSD 554 KV.

According to preliminary security information, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which reportedly struck a roadside pole before overturning.

The impact left three occupants seriously injured, while another person died in the incident.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who were monitoring the area, quickly moved to the scene after the crash.

The officers secured the area and coordinated emergency assistance as Good Samaritans helped remove the injured occupants from the wreckage.

The three injured victims were subsequently taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for immediate medical attention.

Security personnel from Victoria Island also joined the emergency response, while LASTMA officials removed the damaged vehicle from the road to prevent further accidents and ease traffic movement.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, sympathised with the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise caution whenever they are behind the wheel.

He warned that speeding, dangerous driving and failure to maintain control of vehicles could put the lives of both motorists and other road users at risk.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, also appealed to motorists using the Coastal Road and other roads across the state to prioritise safety rather than speed.

Osiyemi warned that motorists who disregard speed limits or engage in conduct capable of endangering others would be apprehended and prosecuted.

“The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation urges all motorists plying the Coastal Road and across all Lagos roads to put lives before speed. Excessive speeding and reckless driving place motorists, passengers, pedestrians and other road users at grave risk.

“Motorists who disregard speed regulations or endanger lives will be apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Osiyemi said in a statement.

The commissioner urged motorists to drive at safe speeds, remain alert and observe traffic regulations to ensure they and other road users reach their destinations safely.
