President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Thursday attended the national premiere of MKO, a documentary chronicling the life and political legacy of the late businessman, publisher and politician, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.
The presidential couple arrived at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, Lagos, where the premiere was held as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day.
A video shared by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, showed Tinubu and his wife entering the venue as a band played the national anthem, with guests standing during the rendition.
Dada described the event and the President’s arrival in a post, saying, “President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have arrived at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, Lagos, for the national premiere of ‘MKO’, a feature-length documentary on the life and political legacy of late businessman, publisher and politician, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.”
The premiere was held on Thursday, October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day, with the documentary focusing on Abiola’s life, political activities and his place in the events surrounding the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Directed by Ose Oyamendan, MKO explores Abiola’s political journey and legacy through archival footage and accounts linked to the June 12 struggle.
The documentary’s Nigerian premiere follows its international screening at the Sheffield DocFest in the United Kingdom.
Abiola, who contested the 1993 presidential election under the Social Democratic Party, became a central figure in Nigeria’s political history following the annulment of the election, which was widely regarded as having been won by him.
