The family of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, approved its request for a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
The family, through its lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, said the police re-investigation remains active despite the recent dismissal of a separate case by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a statement dated September 29, 2026, Ogungbe said the Aloba family submitted its petition to the IGP on April 14, 2026, and that it was received at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on May 7.
According to the lawyer, the petition highlighted what the family considered inconsistencies in the earlier investigation and requested a detailed forensic review of the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
He said the IGP subsequently approved the petition and directed the Lagos State Police Command to take immediate action.
The family was later informed that the matter had been assigned to officers attached to the Special Enquiry Bureau for further investigation.
“The family’s representative has since been invited and has engaged with the new team of investigators assigned to the matter.
“The family has continued to follow up with the investigators and remained engaged with the new investigative process,” Ogungbe said.
The statement was issued following the September 25 dismissal of Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/363/2026 by the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Ogungbe clarified that the dismissed suit was distinct from the petition submitted by the Aloba family to the police and was not filed by the family or on its behalf.
“The Aloba Family therefore does not wish the public to conflate the dismissal of that suit with the separate investigative process already commenced pursuant to the Family’s petition to the Inspector-General of Police,” the statement noted.
The family maintained that the court’s decision did not bring the police investigation arising from its petition to an end.
It also pledged to continue assisting the investigators by providing documents, information, witnesses and other materials considered relevant to the probe.

The lawyers urged the police to conduct the fresh investigation independently and professionally, with all relevant individuals and circumstances examined.
The family further said it was not attempting to determine the outcome of the investigation through public statements or media pressure.
It described its objective as securing a credible and transparent process that would establish the facts surrounding the singer’s death.
“The re-investigation is ongoing. The Aloba Family remains fully engaged. The pursuit of justice for Mohbad continues,” the statement concluded.
