The crisis within the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress intensified on Friday as former governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja concerning past electoral documents submitted by Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
Hunye is asking the court to examine statutory declarations contained in Adeola’s previous Independent National Electoral Commission nomination forms to determine the state of origin declared by the senator during earlier elections.
The development was contained in a statement issued in Lagos by Hunye’s media adviser, Femi Oyewole, after a press briefing by Hunye’s lead counsel, Olamide Victor.
Victor said the case was not intended to dispute Adeola’s status as a Yewa indigene, but to raise questions about consistency in public documents submitted under oath and the alleged legal implications of any discrepancies.
“We are not challenging the indigeneity of Senator Olamilekan Adeola as a Yewa son. What we are bringing before the court is a matter of statutory integrity and constitutional compliance.
“He has held public elective offices over two decades. What state of origin did he declare under oath in his previous INEC nomination forms when he contested in Lagos State? Was it Ekiti State? Was it Lagos State? Any deliberate inconsistency in documents submitted under oath carries severe legal implications,” Victor said.
Although copies of the historical forms in question were not made available at the briefing, Victor said certified true copies obtained from INEC repositories would be presented as exhibits during the trial.

The legal action is the latest development in the disagreement between Hunye and Adeola over the APC governorship ticket for the 2027 Ogun State election.
Speaking about his legal standing in the matter, Hunye said he was not asking the court to declare him the party’s candidate. Instead, he said he wanted the judiciary to determine whether the APC’s nomination process complied with the relevant electoral laws.
“I am not asking the media or the public to declare me the candidate. I am asking the judiciary to look at the process, examine the facts under the Electoral Act, and allow the law to take its proper course,” Hunye stated.
Hunye also challenged the Ogun APC State Working Committee’s claim that he was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition allegedly submitted by members of his ward in Tube, Ipokia Local Government Area.
He questioned the decision of the party to accept his N50m payment for the governorship expression of interest and nomination forms on April 28, weeks after the alleged suspension.
“If I was genuinely suspended on April 7, why did the party accept my N50m payment on April 28? Why was my application processed, and why was I cleared by the screening committee to contest the primary?” he asked.
Hunye contested the APC governorship primary held on May 21, where Adeola was declared the winner with 304,055 votes out of 305,287 accredited voters. Hunye, however, was recorded as receiving zero votes.
The former aspirant said he had first pursued the matter through the party’s internal mechanisms by filing petitions before the APC Governorship Primary Appeal Committee but received no response.
He said his decision to approach the court followed his failure to obtain redress through the party’s internal process.
Hunye also rejected claims that the lawsuit was being sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu.
He maintained that the legal action was his independent effort to seek compliance with the law and promote internal democracy within the APC.
