Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has said Nigerians are benefiting from relatively low petrol prices when compared with the cost of fuel in the United Kingdom.
Okpebholo made the statement on Thursday while speaking at the ‘Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road’ event.
The governor said his recent experience buying petrol in London showed a significant difference between fuel prices in Nigeria and the UK when converted using the applicable exchange rate.
He said he visited London the previous week and deliberately checked the price of petrol after purchasing fuel with a friend.
“I was in London last week. I went to buy fuel with my friend just to know the cost of fuel between Nigeria and England.
“Let me tell you, after conversion, it’s about N3,000 per litre. We are enjoying here. The president is stabilising the economy. He is an economist.
“Our president is not a supermarket man. Let supermarket people wait for their time to rule Nigeria, if technocrat is not here again, then they will come,” Okpebholo said.

The governor used the comparison to argue that the current price of petrol in Nigeria remains relatively low by international standards.
He also praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, saying the administration was working towards stabilising the economy.
