Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam has invited President Bola Tinubu to undertake a state visit to Singapore.
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, disclosed the invitation in a statement issued by the Nigerian Mission House in New York.
According to Ibrahim, Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Burhan Gafoor, visited the Nigerian Mission House in New York to formally deliver Shanmugaratnam’s invitation in a letter addressed to Tinubu.
Ibrahim said the economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration had attracted international attention, including interest from Singapore.
The Nigerian envoy drew a comparison between the boldness of Tinubu’s reforms and the transformation of Singapore under its first Prime Minister, the late Lee Kuan Yew.
“His achievements are enviable and continue to generate concern to countries like Singapore to share experience in multilateralism,” he said.
Ibrahim also described Nigeria’s ongoing reforms as part of efforts to transform the country into a modern state where citizens’ interests would be protected.
“Nigeria is currently going through reform in order to transform herself to a modern contemporary state, where interests of everyone is protected and Nigerians begin to enjoy a viable proposition.”

The diplomat said Tinubu holds the Singaporean president in high regard and congratulated Singapore on the reforms that contributed to its transformation.
Although no date has been fixed for the proposed state visit, Ibrahim said Tinubu would make time to visit Singapore in the near future.
