Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie has stirred debate with his views on marriage, financial responsibility and the role of men as heads of their families.
The actor shared his opinion during an appearance on Bae U Barbie’s Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, where he advised men against kneeling when proposing marriage to their partners.
Edochie argued that the act of kneeling to present an engagement ring could symbolically amount to a man surrendering his position as the head of the family to his wife.
He also advised men against allowing their wives to become financially responsible for the household, suggesting that a man could become deeply frustrated if he finds himself dependent on his wife for basic needs.
“Don’t pray for your wife to feed you. If you get into such a situation, you’d like to take poison and die. If you step down on your knee and you offer a woman a ring, you are conceding headship of the family to that woman. I will not take it back,” he stated.

The veteran actor’s comments have generated mixed reactions on social media, with several users challenging his position on marriage and questioning the idea that kneeling during a proposal determines who becomes the head of a family.
Others, however, viewed his remarks as reflecting his personal beliefs about traditional gender roles and financial responsibilities within marriage.
