The Osun State Government has rejected an advertorial published in a national newspaper linking a failed road project to the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing the report as “fake news.”
The government said the road featured in the publication was not constructed by the current administration but was executed during the tenure of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola. It added that the road is located in Mukoro, Ile-Ife, and not in Modakeke as claimed.
The advertorial, sponsored by the New Hope for the Weak Foundation, featured images of damaged roads and waste in Modakeke with the caption: “The face of bad governance; the dancer was a mistake. Osun people, let’s remove the round peg from the square hole.”
Responding in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Works, Bashiru Bello, said the government had provided the Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates of the road to enable members of the public verify its exact location through Google Maps.
“The bad road published on the front page of the … newspaper today was constructed by the Oyetola administration, not the Adeleke government and the road is located at Mukoro, Ile-Ife, not Modakeke,” the statement read.
The government further argued that the road shown in the publication could not have been one of the current administration’s projects because its ongoing road works had not reached the stage where lane markings had been installed.
“The road initiated by the Adeleke administration has not reached the level of lane marking shown in the published road. The publication is therefore simply fake news,” the statement added.
According to the government, its focus has been on rehabilitating and correcting defects in projects inherited from the previous administration.
It also accused the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to shift responsibility for defective infrastructure to Governor Adeleke’s government.

“The Adeleke administration has been doing a lot of remediation and corrective work on several projects inherited from the Oyetola administration. The attempt of Osun APC to push its defects on the Adeleke government is therefore deceitful,” Bello said.
The government urged residents to independently verify the location of the road, insisting it was completed during Oyetola’s tenure.
The disagreement comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State, where the Accord Party-led administration and the opposition APC have continued to exchange accusations over governance and security ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The latest development follows recent violent incidents in parts of the state that have claimed lives and left others injured, with opposition parties criticising the government’s handling of security.
Speaking recently at the Accord Party governorship campaign rally in Olorunda Local Government Area, Governor Adeleke appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene over the killings in the state.
“President Bola Tinubu, something is happening in Osun that you have not moved to put an end to. They are killing our people. You are the President; you are the father for all of us. Osun has said they won’t allow rigging.
“There won’t be rigging in Osun. Remember what happened in 1983. It started in Yorubaland. When they cheated Bola Ige and Ajasin. Osun will not agree. We want a free and fair election.
“President Tinubu, I am passing this message to you. We have endorsed you; why are they still killing us?” he queried.
