The Lagos State Government has alerted motorists travelling along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to prepare for partial traffic disruptions as rehabilitation work begins on the Kara Bridge expansion joint.
The repair, which starts on Tuesday, July 28, is being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works and is expected to last for two weeks to improve the bridge’s safety and lifespan.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the existing four-lane carriageway would be reduced to two lanes across a 1.5-kilometre stretch to create a safe working area for the contractors.
“Motorists are advised to expect partial traffic disruptions around the Kara axis during the repair period and are urged to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor,” Osiyemi said.
He noted that motorists should expect moderate congestion around the Fatgbems Turn area, as some road users may make U-turns or seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
Despite the anticipated traffic build-up, the commissioner assured commuters heading towards Ibadan beyond Fatgbems Turn that traffic movement along that section of the expressway would experience minimal disruption.
The traffic advisory comes ahead of the 74th Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, scheduled to hold from August 3 to August 9, when vehicular movement along the corridor is expected to increase significantly.

The state government urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, explore alternative routes where necessary, and comply with all traffic directives issued by officials managing movement during the rehabilitation exercise.
Osiyemi also thanked residents and road users for their anticipated cooperation, stressing that the repair work is designed to improve the safety and durability of the Kara Bridge for all commuters.
