Nollywood actress Jaiye Kuti, popularly known as Jayeola Monje, has opened up about what she describes as the absence of genuine support among actors in the Nigerian film industry.

During an appearance on Oyinmomo TV, the actress said many of her colleagues are dealing with the same professional challenges but choose to remain silent, pretending everything is fine instead of addressing the issues affecting them.

She recalled her disappointment after raising concerns about her movie being pulled from several cinemas, saying none of her fellow actors publicly defended or supported her despite being affected by similar industry problems.

Jaiye said the experience changed how she views the relationships within Nollywood, noting that many colleagues only reach out during celebrations but disappear when real support is needed.

“The people you’re emulating, and looking at as an example, do you really want to know them? The people you call celebrities and follow on social media.

Not one actor went to those cinemas or even supported me, despite the fact that we’re all going through the same thing.

But if I celebrate my birthday, the next day, they’d wish me a happy birthday. So I stopped wishing people a happy birthday because I don’t want anyone to wish me one. Please don’t”.

The actress added that she no longer sends birthday messages to colleagues because she believes such gestures have become meaningless without genuine concern for one another.

She also drew attention to the financial realities of filmmaking, saying many people underestimate the amount producers invest before attempting to recover their money through cinema releases.
